When I heard of this documentary, I thought “What a tragic story!” This is the life story of Timothy Treadwell, self proclaimed naturalist/filmmaker/grizzly bear veteran, who spent 13 seasons in the Alaskan wilderness studying and filming these beautiful, deadly creatures.
I remembered hearing about this guy years ago when he was still alive and making all sorts of headlines for himself. Some called him a whack job who was fighting the government for protection against the grizzlies. Others called him a Wildlife Hero who was helping the animal kingdom with his amazing video footage. I couldn’t wait to glimpse this film now that it’s out on DVD.
With Werner Herzog narrating the hundreds of hours of amazing movie footage Timothy had collected over the years; the do

Anyone have any thoughts on this movie? They’re showing it on Discovery Channel right now. Apparently he spent 13 seasons in the wilderness w/ these bears before he got eaten.

Oh yeah, and I ponder he was fucking insane. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Rented to the DVD today. Going to watch it tomorrow afternoon. I hear it’s superb and it more about how insane the guy is than the bears.

From what I saw it got almost unanimously positive reviews.
Anyway, currently downloading and I’ll have my commentary ready in the near future.

I saw about 10 minutes of it on Discovery.
The guy seemed really silly talking about how he is protecting the bears.
The combination of his arrogance and ignorance was appalling.
He didn’t possess a clue.
Darwinism at its finest.
Mod_Zen6
I’m currently watching it on Discovery. This guy is insane!

I wrote a review of Grizzly Man, the Werner Herzog documentary about a peculiar man named Timothy Treadwell, who lived amongst and was eventually devoured by bears. It remains a popular post to this day, because a lot of people carry on to search Google for "Timothy Treadwell death audio," and I rank relatively well for the designation. (Treadwell did, in evidence, record his own demise, but the audio itself is not heard in Herzog's film, prompting some curiosity, I suppose.)
The visitors who find my blog post are most likely disappointed, as I don't have the recording accessible for download, but some of them leave comments anyway. These remarks are uniformly ugly, reveling in both homophobia and an unhealthy delight in the man's demise. A sampling:
TIM TREDWELL what a asshole anybody who would place his hand over a pile of bear shit, and go hmmm hmmm good it came out of her. what a asshole what would he do if i took a shit in the woods i bet he would put his nose up to my trud and go sniff sniff hmmm hmmmm good he was very sick
This is one of the most tame and respectful comments (that wer
