    GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, along with Athlete Ally, a national organization working to elevate and advocate for LGBTQ athletes, and OutChina, are releasing a “Guide to Covering LGBTQ Athletes at the Olympics and Paralympics” as a resource to journalists and media professionals.

    There are at least 32 out LGBTQ athletes competing in the Winter Games in Beijing, according to , a principal news source on LGBTQ athletes. This is a historic number of out athletes for the Winter Olympics; the Pyeongchang Olympics featured 15 out athletes. A sample listing of out LGBTQ athletes who will be in Beijing is below.

    Music composer draws inspiration for new work by traveling Road 66

    Nolan Stolz, associate professor of music at the University of South Carolina Upstate, has been traveling back and forth on Route 66 since July as he composes his fresh major orchestral piece, "Route 66 Suite." It's part of a six-year project to commemorate the th anniversary of the historic highway.

    The work will be a musical reflection of Route 66 and will represent various aspects of the road. He talked with KSMU about his journey. Below is a lightly edited Q and A transcript.

    Q: Where have you been so far, and what inspiration contain you gained?

    A: This is my seventh trip. I'm currently on my fourth westbound trip, and I'll do one more eastbound trip, so I've been basically everywhere on Route Different places are inspiring different things. After coming out as same-sex attracted in an Instagram publish in , Bankes hopes to show younger athletes “that they can be whomever they are, or want to be, without discrimination.” They are competing in their first Olympics this year and own previously competed in several World Championships.
