LGBTQ Nottingham

Nottingham has a vibrant Gay history, with the first officially licensed gay club, the first professor of Gay and Lesbian Studies, the first trade union LGBT support group and the first eternal rainbow crossing all based here.

Today, it's been named the UK's friendliest city and has a great LGBTQIA+ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and others) scene ready to explore. Home to several LGBTQIA+ friendly bars and clubs, along with great restaurants, shopping and a thriving theatre and arts scene, there are events to check out every night of the week.

Nightlife and Culture

Each July, Nottinghamshire Pride hits the streets of Nottingham, with a fabulous parade which culminates in a street party in Hockley. In February, organisations such as the University of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire's Rainbow Heritage put on events for LGBT History Month.

Broadway Cinema and Cafe is an LGBTQIA+ friendly venue and often screens LGBT films. They also include a bar and restaurant

Most important LGBT venues and areas in Nottingham showcased in new walking tour

A new walking tour of Nottingham has revealed some of the most significant areas of Nottingham to the LGBT community.

The tour, sourced and put together by Troy Jenkinson, gives those participating an insight into the history of the city and its vibrant LGBT culture.

Two tours are available for people to try out - a shorter 45 minute 'pink' walk, and a longer 90 minute 'yellow' walk.

The routes, which have been carefully put together, will allow walkers to see every street, building or area of LGBT significance Nottingham has to offer.

Troy Jenkinson, 44, a headteacher from Radcliffe-on-Trent, told Nottinghamshire Live: "I've grown up in Nottingham and I have a desire for history.

"If it wasn't for some of these places I have identified on the blueprint, I wouldn't be as confident in myself, I wouldn't be the person I am today."

The most notorious example was “Infants given gay pornography” and “Infants encouraged into homosexual practices”.  The pornography and the “encouragement” was delivered by a book called “Jenny lives with Eric and Martin”.

No child was ever given the book. One copy existed in a Teachers’ Centre for apply by teachers only. The book depicts Jenny, her father Martin, his partner Eric and is “the story of how they spend their weekend”.
